designing new bags

I’m not happy with the bags I end up carrying around. They are heavier than they need to be, do not hold everything I want, and are so specifically suited to tasks if i end up doing something i don’t plan for i get screwed.
- Things I carry on my person all the time: Keys (includes leatherman), Wallet, and Phone.
- Things I carry when I am going somewhere that will take a while: Kindle, moleskine, pen.
- When I take my computer I bring: Laptop, charging cord with extension.
Bags that I have now and do not like:
- Timbuktu backpack: It’s good at carrying the computer and the kindle but it is quite heavy. This is probably due to the amount of padding in it which is excessive. It also cannot hold anything else because it does not use it’s space efficiently.
- incase laptop case: Can only carry the computer. Can’t really even carry the powersupply with this. It’s also not back friendly to carry around.
- north face backpack: lightweight and large, it’s my most versatile bag. However it’s not as big as it seems and cannot really efficiently carry things that cannot be crushed. When the laptop is stored inside of it there’s not much room for anything.
- green canvas bag: very basic, but efficient. Use it to carry my kindle and a few things if i need to. Not ergonomic and doesn’t have protection for the laptop.
What I want: ultra light weight (tyvek?), ergonomic (like a backpack), detachable laptop sleeve with laptop padding, ability to hold different amounts of stuff efficiently. Scaling from just a few things to a few days of groceries.
